The Belize Barrier Reef is now its own brand – and we couldn’t be more proud
Stretching a glorious, azure 180 miles, the Belize Barrier Reef is the pride and joy of the tiny country. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Belize Barrier Reef system is more than just our famous Great Blue Hole. Encompassing three of the four atolls on this side of the world, it is an entity that continues to be the spectacle our country is adamant on preserving.
In an effort to continue preserving the reef that keeps our country safe from hurricanes, in June 2021, the Belize Ministry of Blue Economy, Protected Areas Conservation Trust, World Wildlife Fund, and others have turned the barrier reef system into its own brand. This way, the importance of Belize’s world heritage site can be communicated in order to work towards a sustainable future for our reef system.
Complete with its own logo and brand book, the Belize Barrier Reef will hold a much more solidified space in both tourists and locals’ minds. With these tourism entities using the brand to market and protect the reef system – which is Belize’s main tourism selling point – we will be helping place an economic and societal value on the reef, while supporting the rich array of flora and fauna.
